The Quran from Orientalists Point of View is a semiannual peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by Al-Mustafa International University in Qom, Iran. Established to foster critical academic engagement with Western scholarship on the Quran, this journal provides a dedicated forum for Muslim researchers, theologians, and Quranic scholars to systematically examine, analyze, and respond to Orientalist approaches to Quranic studies.
    Since the emergence of modern Orientalism in the eighteenth century, Western scholarship has produced extensive, though often contested, research on the Quran's text, compilation, linguistic features, historical context, and theological claims. These studies have employed diverse methodological frameworks including historical-critical analysis, philology, source criticism, and comparative religious studies. While some Orientalist works have contributed valuable linguistic and historical insights, many have been critiqued for operating within presuppositions that challenge core Islamic beliefs regarding the Quran's divine origin, textual integrity, and revelatory nature. This journal does not seek to dismiss Orientalist scholarship wholesale, nor to engage in polemics. Rather, it adopts a rigorous academic posture of critical dialogue, examining Orientalist arguments on their scholarly merits, identifying methodological biases and epistemological assumptions underlying various interpretations, and presenting well-researched counter-perspectives grounded in classical Islamic scholarship and contemporary academic standards. Articles published herein address diverse dimensions of Orientalist Quranic studies, including:
  • Critical analyses of specific Orientalist scholars' theories regarding Quranic authorship, compilation history, and textual transmission
  • Evaluations of Orientalist approaches to Quranic language, literary structure, and rhetorical features
  • Investigations into the historical, political, and ideological contexts shaping Orientalist interpretations
  • Comparative studies between Orientalist and traditional Muslim exegetical methodologies
  • Constructive proposals for methodologically sound cross-cultural Quranic scholarship
