Abstract

Collection and codification of the Quran in various periods is one of the most important issues of history of Quran that the Muslim and Non-Muslim Quranic researchers have paid attention to. The German Theodor Noldeke being a prominent figure of orientalists has played a greater part via writing an exclusive book in this respect “the history of Quran”. The orientalists’ Quranic studies, considering their presuppositions, limited sources and special method of research, can be seriously criticised and disagreed with. Thus, the current essay tries to describe and analyse some of his significant views such as: the reasons behind collection of the Quran during the Prophet’s lifetime, memorizers and collector of revelation, the word of collection itself and the similarities and differences of his and the Muslim scholars views.
