The issue of abrogation [naskh] is one of the questions of the Quranic sciences which plays an important role in understanding the laws of the Qur'anic verses and has long been the focus of Quranic scholars and commentators. John Burton, the author of the article in the Qur'an Encyclopedia of Leiden, tries to use abrogation as two reasons against Islam religion by reference to the fabricated traditions, narratons of Israiliyyat and superficial views: 1- Distortion in the Qur'an 2- Contradiction between the verses of the Qur'an. From these two reasons, he concludes that the Qur'an is non-divine and non-revelational. Although he did not specify the types of abrogation, he claims the occurance of all kinds of abrogation in the Quran according to the examples he provides. In this study, after translating the passages from it, his claims have been criticized for failing to refer to the authoritative sources and views of the scholars of the Prophet’s Hausehold’s school of tought and misinterpreted assumptions, especially in the abrogation-related verses (literal and idiomatic meaning). It is one of his major drawbacks, the use of fake and fabricated sources, the lack of sufficient knowledge of some of the topics of the Qur'anic sciences (takhsis al-aam and taq’yid al-itlaq, etc.)
