In this writing, the meaning of the word (orienta lism) is investigated and it's special definition (know'ing Islam by non – muslims) is explained after which the history of orientalism and its six steps is also investigated and this is done by starting from the advent of the political relationship between west and the eastern world and their competition in civilization. Understanding Islam by the westerners and critism against it, interpretation of the Qur'an, defence of church, crusade wars and the exportation of Islamic sciences and civilizations to the west are among the issues treated in this writing.
