Abstract

This study reviews and critiques the "Revelation" entry of Professor Oliver Leaman's edited Quranic Encyclopedia written by Dr. Abdullah Saeed. The present research, after a brief introduction to the Quranic Encyclopedia of Oliver Leaman as the writer of the "Revelation" entry, presents a brief report on the translation of the text and then reviews it for rational, narrative, and historical reasons.
The review shows that this entry is appreciated, although it is an attempt to convey the phenomenon of revelation to the addressee and to mention important and detailed material related to that discussion: the fluency of the language, documentation of datas and logical structure of the article. However, in many ways, such as the lack of a comprehensive definition, the claim of resemblance of the poem to the revelation, the lack of determination of the meanings of the Holy Scripture, the complete reliance on the Sunni scholars' opinions in this discussion, and the exclusively consideration of the Qur'anic language into the common sense, are some of its shortcomings.
